Helen French 1931-2025. An artist known for her abstract, patterned and recognisable work.

Helen French has a considerable following among designers, architects and artists. Her work can probably be seen as belonging to the new interest in abstract art that has been gathering force around the world in the past few years.

Helen does not repeat herself or rely upon a formula, nor does she construct a permanent image like an immutable logo.

However, her work is always recognisable, like a prevailing tone of voice.

Her flat, geometric shapes intermingle with complex lines that could be organic, or the detritus of modern urban living.

But always there is the sense of the heroic, a point she firmly admires about great modernistic abstract painting.

“I get up every morning and I say to myself, “what am I going to make today? My whole life is involved in my work.”

“Helen is a remarkable artist, creative since childhood, she has moved from one art process to another, always extending the boundaries and striving for ever greater heights of achievement. She is a courageous experimenter who has achieved much, and will continue to do for for all of her days.”
